Citizens For Clean Water C4CW Eco Pro Surf Series kicks off their first stop at Ponce Inlet in Volusia County, Florida. The Eco Pro Surf Series is professional surf comp designed to help promote Professional level surfers who are making waves on the scene, and Amateur levels working at their skills and looking for new avenues to reach their next level in surfing. The Eco Pro directly benefits charitable organizations throughout the surfing world. Their mission “is to provide local and community focused professional surfing events that stimulate public interest and attract international competitors to our coastlines all managed by a special committee drafted by Future 6 Helping Hand.”… and they’ve done just that, with guys like Wilfredo Deliz hailing from Puerto Rico, and others too.
Here is a completed 360 air sequence ridden on a Jeri Surfboard!
The Pro events included Men’s, Women’s, Master’s, Junior’s, and Long board divisions. Open events included Men’s, Women’s, Boys U12, Girls U12, Boys U16, Girls U16
We cruised by to check out the event and get some waves while enjoying a gorgeous Saturday in the Florida Sun. Got a few glimpses of the contest with a Nikon D7100 Professional Camera & Sigma 500MM telephoto lens. The trick is capturing at the right moment, with the right focus, settings, from the right angle, with the right lighting… get those in order and you may get a decent photo.
Ponce inlet has been on fire lately! The combo swells from Florence had been really gracious to the Volusia Inlets, and now what once was “post-tropical” Leslie, is now again a tropical storm. She is moving very slowly Southwestward, giving us a nice shot of swell, and onshore winds, as she does her dance across the Atlantic Ocean. For Florida, not every swell can be perfect with groomed offshore winds. Sometimes we have to take a little bad with the good. But if you look at like some of the guys do, chop sections make for good airs.
Second peak was the zone today, and all the competitors were surfing their bests! Groms like Carl Burger, Logan Radd were shredding it up, and Pro’s like Aaron “Gorkin” Cormican were landing huge airs! So impressive is all the talent that comes out of Florida surfing, it ceases to amaze me every contest these guys are getting better and better each contest they enter!
